Critical (Efficient) Reading

To be 'Efficient' means that you do not waste your valuable time; To be 'effective' means that you are able to understand what you read.


Academic articles are not read in the same way as a short story, a novel or a newspaper report, do not just start at the beginning and try to read through to the end


The appropriate approach can allow you to identity the structure of the author's argument both efficiently and effectively.

WHILE READING: Try to think critically:

•     What is the author saying?
•     What does the author imply?
•     What does the author assume?
•     Is the argument valid?
•     How does he support the argument?
